SNOOP LION / SNOOP DOGG Talks about the ZIMMERMAN Not Guilty Verdict
At a special Los Angeles screening for his new animated film ‘Turbo,’ Snoop Lion discusses the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin trial. (July 17)
In one of the most watched trials in America in the case of George Zimmerman v the State of Florida for the 2012 murder of Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman was acquitted on all charges. While the verdict brought emotions of shock, anger, disgust, many took to social media to express their feelings. The Associated Press caught up with rapper Snoop Dogg, while he was promoting his new animated film Turbo; Snoop shared his feelings about the verdict, the prosecutions case, and more.
Snoop Dogg, like many black Americans are confident that racism in America is still alive. “I just feel like certain laws are made to protect others and certain laws are made to break others,” Snoop told AP. “If that would have been a black on black crime there would have been a conviction, no matter what.”

At around 10:15 pm Saturday, July the six member jury reached a decision following 16 hours of deliberation. They had been given the chance to convict Zimmerman of manslaughter but did not do so, despite asking for a clarification of the charge earlier in the evening, the Miami Herald reported.
While the all female juror, of Zimmerman’s peers were left to decide if he was a cold blooded murder or a well-to-do neighborhood watchman, they concluded with the latter causes the nation to respond with hurt, anger, pain, and prayer for the Martin family.
At least 14 people were taken into custody Tuesday night and many more remained at large after marauding bands of young people conducted a string of robberies, assaults and acts of vandalism along Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles police said late Tuesday.
The crimes did not appear to be related to the protests over the George Zimmerman acquittal in the slaying of Trayvon Martin.
Incident commander Dennis Kato said police were inundated with phone calls beginning about 9 p.m., reporting that packs of young people were roaming along Hollywood and attacking people. Public information officer Rosario Herrera said at least one of the attacks was near Hollywood and Highland.
The robbers knocked down tourists and grabbed their phones, Kato said. In at least one incident, they hauled off a cash register from a business. There were no reports of weapons involved in the attacks.
The extremist New Black Panthers Party has predicted “unrest all over America” if George Zimmerman is acquitted, although the group denied that it was organizing riots in light of claims its leader had vowed to burn down white communities.

A quote being attributed to New Black Panthers leader Samir Shabazz by numerous Internet sites states, “This time we’re doing it right… This time we’re not burning down our communities. This time we’re going out to Whitey’s suburbs and burning down HIS community. We’re going to make Whitey feel the pain.”

According to the group’s Twitter feed, it will “engage in no unlawful activity” in response to the verdict, but the organization also states, “We can’t and WON’T try to control the general dissatisfied population. For sure we are ORGANIZING.” The group is also planning “rallies and street maneuvers” but refuses to provide details
In another tweet, the group comments that there is “a HIGH chance of rebellion across the nation if Zimmerman is acquitted on all charges,” in addition to another message which states, “If Zimmerman is acquitted there is likely to be unrest all over America, It will be way beyond the capacity of the NBPP.”
“For the record whatever God moves Black People to do after the verdict, it can never be called a riot — it’s a rebellion,” states another tweet
